Currently, I am reading the book
Leviathan, by Scott Westerfeld, and so far, I have found it to be a fairly interesting book. The book takes place in the midst of World War I, and the Clankers and Darwinists are at each others throats... with giant gun-slinging machines and huge mutant hybrid animals. Yes, you read this correctly.
Giant.

Gun-slinging.

Machines.
And
Huge.

Mutant Hybrid.
Animals.
Now, there are two main characters to this story, a boy, hoping to get into the "air force" of the Darwinists; and a boy escaping from other Clankers in his giant Star-Wars steampunk machine. Except, the first boy, Deryn, is a girl, and the second one, Aleksander, is a prince. Both of them cannot have their true identities found out, or Deryn would be unable to join the air service and be sent back to a life she hates, and Aleksander would most likely be either captured and/or killed. So far, I favor Deryn. She is fairly strong, and intelligent, especially when it comes to anything that is related to the air and sky. And it takes quite a bit of courage to sneak into the air service like she did. All in all, for the time being, I find her character more relatable than I find Alek.
That looks really interesting. It kind of sounds like Mulan how Deryn couldn't be in the air force if they found out she was a girl.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, I can totally see that connection. Dang it Hallie! Now I'm going to think about Mulan every time I read about Deryn!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you break up the text with pictures. It really emphasizes your point.
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you! :D
